iSentry Legacy App Reviews

Just what I needed

I basically needed to get some sort of notification when my webcam (an external logitech) catches something moving. This app sends an email out instantly and you can set it to save the captured photo or video where you want. In my case I save to a dropbox folder so that I can then check it as it syncs up. This is perfect for a simple and effective security setup. Great job devs!

Great app!

Very nice App - I have an iMac at work and I had some problems with stuff being taken from my cube. I started my search for an app to take pictures using FaceTime HD camera oftenly, so I could find out what was going on. I used some previous versions of this App, which I had configured only to take pictures at every 5 seconds. Pretty neat App and self-explanatory. It does not only what it proposes (in its description), as delay start, sensor sensitivity, recording sound, event log and pre-motion recording for photos. I use it along with Shades, so I can dim my display off, and I also bought lightdim films to put over the HD cam LED. It works pretty well. A feature I would enjoy seeing is the “pre-motion recording” also for video, since it is only available for photo recording.

Simple design and flawless function

This is everything an app should be. Simple, intuitive menus and configuration. It does exactly what it should do without fuss. It just needs better icon art :)

Thanks

I am so happy to find thats app. I love it and it works great.(easy app)

feature doesn

The recording frequency doesnt appear to be working right. I have it set for 1 picture for 5 seconds and it saves like 10 pictures per second!

Freaking awesome!

Set it up to a google drive, and you’ll have things online as fast as there is internet! Missing 3 features, though: - turn on screen (to a full white background) so light from screen can help identifying faces, eventually. - higher resolution both on videos and images - launch another app (or apple script) when activated

Does the job for the price

Better than paying $50 to monitor cat box behavior.

Don’t Upgrade!

You lose functionality with this upgrade. Previously available features are now only available in the premium version.

DO NOT UPGRADE!

DO NOT UPGRADE THIS APP! They remove functionality in order to trap you into paying for the premium version. Any developer should know that you need to actually ADD features in order to charge for a premium version. This is a bare bones app even with the “premium features.” And they don’t disclose. Do not recommend and will no longer be using.

Good version

I kept a copy of the old version by option copying to a different location then renaming it. With the new version installed, I set out to find out what sort of functionality was removed. I could find none, zip, nada. However, the preferences is no longer accessed by tipping an arrow on the camera screen. It is in the menu, instead. My suggestion to others is to do the upgrade with a copy stored elsewhere on your hard drive. Then, if you’re not satisfied, you can revert back to it later. Good program with way more value than the term “free” would suggest!

Lost Camera Functionality

in the prior version the app would crash occasionally, but at least it would use my LogiTech webcam. Now I have fiddle with it and there is still no guarantee it will work.

It’s good, however security is an unfortunate bust. PLEASE FIX! But Most Importantly PLEASE READ!

This app is good and free and the paid pro version is good as well, but not worth $29.99. if it were $0.99 for the added features that would work well. However having two apps makes absolutly no sense at all! They should just use something like in-app purchases as add-ons. What I really love is the recording feature if you have any motion, but that doesn’t work well for security sense you have to have the computer logged in and never put to sleep to do something like this. Someone could delete the photo and take control of the computer! That doesn’t make sense and I hope they fix this soon. I need this to work when my computer is asleep or logged out as anyone would, so that if someone breaks into my home, I will have a photo automatically uploaded to the cloud and an E-Mail notifying me of the motion. The devs should also add photo and video simultaneous capture so I can put photos in the cloud, which are smaller and takes less time to upload, then video on the computer. I live in an area where my home could be broken into at any moment and I don’t have the finances to invest into a security system due to medical bills. If they see me leave I often think, and have been proved right at times, that folks in my neighborhood might take advantage of the opportunity and go for the steal. It’s a great city, but let’s just say we have good and bad in all of us… And I hope that the developers can add a feature that allows the app to automatically turn on when I leave the home. Sure schedule works great, but I don’t exactly know when I will have to leave and if I need to go in a hurry or an emergency I can’t go to the back and turn on iSentry. Plus, that would be the last thing on my mind and many others unfortunately so the app doesn’t get used. An iOS app that works on the iPhone and tracks my location, puts up a definable geofence around my home and if I ever cross that geofence the app can notify me that the iSentry app on my iMac has been activated or not, queing me to turn around or not. That I would pay for!!! Call it iSentry Remote. Short. Simple. Love it. And its free for you to use… Anyway, I know that’s a lot and that this isn’t a pentagon type security measure, but this App has the potential to go far. I truly believe that! I wouldn’t have written this out if I felt otherwise… Please fix this and Thank You!

Jittery

I upgraded to Yosemite and then their was an update to Isentry which I installed from that point on Isentry doesnt work correctly when you start the motion detection you can see the video and then it just gets all jittery and the program stops working shortly after that, I dont know if it is the Yosemite causing the problem or Isentry, hope they fis it soon.

Worked great at start, then after update…the trouble began.

This app was fantastic when I first downloaded it. I couldnt believe that a free app was so incredibly useful, stable and functional. It recorded both video and sequenced stills. It was very controllable. It was stable. It worked perfectly. I live with housemates, and there is one in particular who likes to go to my desk while Im out. She roots around in my personal belongings…not taking anything, just snooping. Violating my privacy. This app gave me a day-by-day video account of her arrogance. Then, Tristero Consulting created an update to the app. It changed it from a free, functional app; to one that no longer functions, and half the features on the app became disabled so that you are forced to "Upgrade" (Pay Money) to regain functionality. I am naming this practice, "Software Extortion." Yes, download our "free" app, and then later well send Vito around to collect payment. To make matters worse, now the app produces garbage files that cannot be opened. Not the great jpeg or mp4 files that were originally produced, but unknown, non-format files that has who knows what in them. After downloading Tristeros own update, the app is now useless. I emailed Tristero about this, and they replied by asking me to email them the useless garbage files. Hmmmmm, email a strange company files from my computer that resulted from new code that they put onto my computer themselves? The probability that funny business exists is quite low. However, when in doubt its always best to err on the conservative side. A side that says, "Are you freakin kidding me?!" Tristero, if I were you I would get my sh*t together PRONTO, before you become a footnote of OS X history. PRESENT RECOMMENDATION: Not worth it. Even if the company fixes the software, theyve already blown their credibility. To the many app buyers out there: If you dont exercise some discrimination and principle when buying software, the net result is you getting shafted constantly. We (thats you and me) cause bad software. We get it handed to us because we dont demand better. So, naturally software companies are only too happy to indulge our lack of discernment. Its our fault, not theirs.

kind of does what it says.

I downloaded iSentry to find out if this will trun my iSight camera in to a motion detection video camera to catch the person who is stealing from my office. Yes, it does. The problem is it only works right after I install it. Once I reboot the computer then iSentry doesn’t open, and a crash report opens up. I can uninstall it and reinstall it but after a reboot it crashes on open again. Also, the schedule feature is not available on my computer. My co-worker installed iSentry at the same time as I did and he has no problems at all with his, so he bought the pro version. I’m not willing to buy the pro version until this version actuall works.

Doesn’t work

Only seems to work with the iSight camera. It did work for about 10 minutes with a USB camera, but once I hit start it refused to use it for video ever again. Deleted.

Works as expected but password protection is really needed

I have to say this app is better than many other paid alternates… it workes as expected but it really lacks a password protecion option.

This is trash, deleted!

Whoa, Nellie! I just deleted the app and lowered the rating to one star! Regardless of how you set the recording preference (1 photo/7 seconds in my case), the app snaps no less than 50 images per movement! What-ever! Gone, deleted!

reliable, compatible, easy to use, easy to review + Caught 3 peeps stealing from my place so far!

I dowloaded the free version some time ago and loved it and actually thought that there is no way that something this cool woud be free lol. well they were succewssfull because I have had 3 major incedents where iSentry WAS THE THING that saved the day and the reason I found who broke in my house. They have no idea I had survallience system lol on my computer!! Freaking sick right?!?!!!! YES SIR. hahaha I love it and that is why I am buying the pro version tonight cause if the free is as killer as this, i cant wait to see what the paid version looks like… Happy - catching room mates stealing stuff from you and they have no idea i got a camera on em the WHOLE TIME YO! hahaha Day! (that really happened and I cought them with this app!)

Not sure about the older versions, but this app rocks!

Exactly what I needed.
